Economic troubles top news in 2009 (Carteret County News-Times)

Jobseekers fill out applications in March during the annual Eastern North Carolina Career Fair. Unemployment in the county remained relatively low, compared to other areas of the state and nation, but the struggling economy, reflected in the construction slowdown, company layoffs and closings, helped increase the jobless rate here to 8.3 percent, according to the latest figures available.
